Did you know that there is an international day for children? November 20th is the day for your cuties! Learn about world children's day here.

What is Children's Day?

Children's Day was created in 1954! This holiday is celebrated on November 20th each year to promote the respect and the rights of children. November 20th marks the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the General Assembly in 1959 and the signing of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, civil society leaders or activists, religious or community leaders, business leaders and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves can all play an important role in making International Children's Day a special event in their society, community or country.

International Children's Day offers each of us a unique opportunity to raise awareness, promote and highlight children's rights. It also allows us to put this day into action to serve children around the world.

Here is a colouring page they can complete to become aware of our environment and to help educate our children in a simple, positive way.

How is this day celebrated?

Many schools and other institutions are making an effort to inform children about their rights from an early age so that they can grow up knowing their rights!

The aim is to make them think about the differences between them through different activities, and to explain that children in some other countries may not have the same rights they do. It also helps them to understand that everyone's opportunities are different, and to make children aware of the diversity of cultures, countries, rights, etc.

For this day dedicated to children, it is important to teach them about their rights, to make them aware of what is happening in the world concerning children all over the world and of course don’t forget to organise an exciting activity for them. Don't forget that it's their day too!

Offer them a movie marathon, a trip to an amusement park or a water park, or cook their favourite meal together.

In general it is important to emphasise that all children in the world have the right to peace, love, happiness, protection, education and care. These are all very important for positive parenting and for your children to flourish.
When you teach your child about rules and boundaries, he or she can begin to form a conscience in early childhood.
